What is Hijama?
Hijama or cupping is a safe, non invasive, non surgical, preventative, curative and therapeutic treatment that was established over 1400 years ago, which works at the cellular level. Hijama is an extension of acupuncture and general cupping, but it is a completely separate therapy from regular cupping. Hijama literally means sucking or drawing out in Arabic. It is the ultimate detoxification and cleansing treatment with a unique ability to draw out toxins, stagnant blood, inflammation, and excess uric acid from the body in a very safe manner. The environment that we live in exposes our bodies to a toxin overload, through the air we breath, the food we consume, the water we drink, the pharmaceuticals that we take and the daily products we apply to our bodies. These air borne pollutants as well as preservatives, pesticides and chemicals enter our bodies and blood stream creating vast amounts of illnesses and diseases that we see in our fellow humans. Hijama allows the release of these toxins that have been accumulated and confined in our bodies, creating havoc to be released. And this helps boost our immune system, promotes and boosts the circulatory system and allows our body to heal, repair and fight back to cure itself. |

Fasting and Cupping:
The Prophet pbuh was cupped while he was fasting. However, if doing this weakens the fasting person, it is disliked. Ibn 'Abbas ra reported that the Prophet pbuh got himself cupped in the state of Ihram. Ibn Majah, 3477 In regards to the one performing Cupping: Volume 7, Book 71, Number 595: Narrated Ibn 'Abbas: The Prophet was cupped and he paid the wages to the one who had cupped him and then took Su'ut (Medicine sniffed by nose). Sahih Muslim Book 10. Business Transactions Chapter : It is permissible to get the wages of cupping. A Hadith like this has been transmitted on the authority of Abu Huraira ra. Chapter 49. Cupping of the Prophet pbuh 'Ali ra reported: " The Prophet pbuh once took the treatment of cupping and asked me to pay its fees. I paid the hajjaam (cupper) his fees". |
Recommended times to do Hijama:
Anas bin Malik ra stated: the Prophet pbuh used the treatment of cupping on both sides of his blessed head and shoulders and generally this treatment was done on the 17th, 19th and 21st of the Islamic lunar month. ( Tirmidhi ).
Notes from therapist: If these days are not possible then any Monday, Tuesday or Thursday of the month. We tend to avoid Wednesdays for Cupping.
As long as Wednesdays are avoided, Hijama treatment is a great blessing regardless of the day of treatment.
