Puberty Before Age 10: A New ‘Normal’? and the causes

Early puberty can set the stage for emotional and behavioral problems, and is linked to lower self-esteem, depression, eating disorders, alcohol use, earlier loss of virginity, more sexual partners and increased risk of sexually transmitted diseases. There is also evidence that suggests these girls are at increased risk of diabetes, heart disease weight gain and other cardiovascular diseases, as well as higher chance of estrogen-sensitive breast cancer.

Early puberty plays a huge role in the mental and physical health of a young woman later in life.
Psychologically, young girls, who mature early, are treated as if they are older. Older boys hit on them, and they are more likely to be sexually harassed. This is all at an age where brain development is still taking place.

Environmental Chemicals are a factor as scientists have brought forth a number of potential explanations for rising early puberty.  Environmental chemicals, and particularly estrogen-mimicking, gender-bending chemicals that easily leach out of products that contain them, contaminating everything they touch, including food and beverages.
BPAs (phthalates) and BPSs (bisphenols) found in plastics also play a role in hormones and their effect on puberty. The human body cannot metabolize these components and the chemicals found in them can have an adverse effect on weight and the timing of puberty. Bisphenol A (BPA), an industrial petrochemical that acts as a synthetic estrogen, is found in our plastics and our tin can linings, in dental sealants and on cash-register receipts. BPA have been found in the umbilical cord blood of new born babies

The following can help keep endocrine disruptors away from a developing child as well as adults.
1} Try to consume only fresh, raw whole foods. as much as possible. Buy organic and free range meats and eggs, to reduce your exposure to added hormones, pesticides and fertilisers. Processed and packaged food may have a high amount of phthalates. This includes canned food. And dairy products containing genetically modified bovine growth hormone {rBGH or rBST}
2} Choose toys that do not contain plastic chemicals like BPAs and BPSs. Such as dummies teething rings, cutlery and any thing your baby may chew on..
3} Store food and beverages in glass, not plastic and never heat food in a plastic container.
4} Use only glass baby bottles for infants.
5} Be aware of till receipts because they are high in BPAs.
6} Look for green, toxin-free, and/or organic alternatives for everything from food to home cleaning items.  Use natural alternatives for household and personal cleaning.
7} Try to breastfeed for at least a year and stay away from formula.
8} Consider safer feminine hygiene products.
9} Go fragrance free, it is often only labeled as “fragrance”, but can contain  numerous chemicals just for the one fragrance.
10} Check your water consumed for contaminants.
11} Avoid pesticide and herbicide use around the home.
12} Avoid personal care and beauty products containing chemicals, go for natural chemical free and perfume free products such as shampoo, deodorants, makeup, hair sprays and may more. Arbonne is a great company for this and is available from the Hijama Clinic.
13} Replace non stick cookware as they contain Perfluorooctanoic acid [PFOA] with ceramic or glassware.
14} keep away from toothpastes and others containing fluoride.
15} Avoid using artificial air freshers, dryer sheets, fabric softeners, synthetic fragrances which may disrupt your hormone balance.
